Overview:
The circulating dance collection consists of an extensive array of books
which illuminate all aspects of theatrical and non-theatrical forms of
dance. The collection is especially strong in dance history, dance instruction,
and biographies of leading dance figures. The collection is further enhanced
by periodicals, scores, commercial videos and DVDs, and easy-to-use clipping
files of newspaper and magazine articles arranged by persons, subjects
and titles of individual dance works. In addition, the collection contains
material on related subjects including anatomy, kinesiology, physiology,
exercise, mime, the aesthetics of movement, the psychology of non-verbal
communication, dance design (costumes, scenery, and lighting,) and rites
and ceremonies in which dance is an element. Dance-related sports and
movement activities including figure skating, gymnastics, synchronized
swimming, fencing, yoga, and martial arts are also represented. The dance
circulating collection also has standard reference books such as encyclopedias
and dictionaries on dance and related subjects to aid the researcher
